Functional Fitness for Life After 50

Functional fitness is exercise that trains your body to perform everyday movements more easily, safely and confidently.

Rather than focusing purely on how much weight you can lift or how you look, functional fitness develops the abilities you use in daily life—such as getting up from a chair, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying shopping, bending, reaching, turning and maintaining your balance.

For people over 50, it is particularly valuable because it helps maintain strength, mobility, balance, coordination and independence as you age.

Why Exercise Matters After 50

Regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to stay healthy, active, and independent as you get older.

The right combination of strength, balance, mobility, and cardiovascular exercise can help you maintain your quality of life, reduce the risk of many age-related conditions, and give you the confidence to enjoy everyday activities for years to come.

As your coach, I promise I understand how important strength and fitness really is!

Following open-heart surgery at the age of 49, I experienced first hand the difficult process of losing fitness and having to gradually rebuild strength and physical ability. Confidence also had to be rediscovered, which is something I was not expecting!

Through a structured approach to exercise though, including progressive strength training, I safely returned to a fully active lifestyle. 12 months after surgery, I was back rock climbing, mountain biking, running and enjoying the gym. Life is good again!

This experience gave me a personal understanding of the challenges involved in building fitness. I believe that, with guidance, perseverance, consistency and a programme tailored to you, it is possible to become stronger and enjoy an active life.

It worked for me. I am confident it will work for your too!

Hope to see you soon.
